Ferbruary 11, 2012: John Urbanski

Our next meeting will be our February monthly meeting. The meeting will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2012. Our meetings are held at the Masonic Hall, located at 71 West 23rd Street, New York, NY, usually in Room 2 Central (check with the guard when you enter the building). The Masonic Hall is centrally located, in midtown Manhattan, right at the 23rd Street station of PATH and the NYC Transit F train. The 6, N, R, 1, C & E subway lines, as well as many bus lines are nearby. For your convenience there are soft drinks and snacks available for purchase at the concession stand at the back of our meeting room at most meetings. Doors open at 6:00 PM, and the show starts at 7:15 PM.

Our February show will be by Mr. John Urbanski. John’s show will consist of a cornucopia of various transit lines, especially in the NYC area, in no particular order. Also there will be the usual old time views, and as always a few slides of the unexpected. At press time, John was still scanning slides/photos, and didn’t have a more specific synopsis available.

This show will offer much variety and a break from the monotony of mid-Winter, so DON’T MISS IT!

January 14, 2012: Ron Yee

Our next meeting will be our January monthly meeting. The meeting will take place on Saturday, January 14, 2012.

To welcome in 2012 in proper fashion, our January show will feature a presentation by Mr. Ron Yee. Being not only a prolific railroad enthusiast, but also a world traveler, Ron’s show will be not just entertainment, but also a journey abroad! Just like last time, Ron’s show will be an all-digital presentation.

Ron’s show will consist of an update of transit and railway scenes from Great Britain and Ireland.  A whirlwind tour around London covering their TramLink lines as well as the new London Overground rail network with images from around the London Underground with the brand new Metropolitan Line "E-class surface stock". Moving northward in the UK, we will then see scenes from Newcastle England's Tyne and Wear Metro system and Commuter railways in Edinburgh Scotland and northern Wales. A visit to Dublin Ireland, featuring their new LUAS Tram as well as the DART Commuter Rail systems and the recently upgraded Irish Railways with new rolling stock.

Then, it’s back to the USA, with a look at some NYC area rail transit developments. Metro-North Railroad's new M-8's during the testing phase as well as it's first year of service on the New Haven Line; PATH's new PA-5's; and if time permits, a brief overview of Chicago's rail transit during the 2011 ERA convention with a focus on the street-running portion of the Chicago South Shore Line in Michigan City Indiana, CTA's famed "L" system and a tour of the CTA Skokie Shops.

As you can see, with all this in store, coupled with Ron’s narration will make for a great show! So come take a break from the cold of mid-January, and DON’T MISS IT!
